Nimodipine is a pyridine dicarboxylic acid dimethyl ester and a second-generation calcium channel blocker. Nimodipine is indicated for the improvement of neurological outcome by reducing the incidence and severity of ischemic deficits in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) from ruptured intracranial berry aneurysms regardless of their post-ictus neurological condition (Hunt and Hess Grades I to V). Nimodipine was approved for use in the United States (US) in 1988 but is not widely used, largely because of its restricted indications.
