It has a role as a plant metabolite, an antibacterial agent, a fragrance, and an alarm pheromone. 1-Hexanol occurs naturally in a number of foods and may be used as a food flavoring agent and as a component in the manufacture of food packaging materials (4). 1-Hexanol is used to produce plasticizers, antiseptics, fragrances, pharmaceuticals, fuels, and finishing agents for textile and leather. 1-Hexanol is used as surfactant and a solvent for fats, waxes, dyes, and paints.
