2-Butanol, also known as butan-2-ol and sec-butanol, is an organic compound that belongs to the class of organic compounds known as secondary alcohols. 2-Butanol occurs naturally as a product of fermentation of carbohydrates. 2-Butanol is widely used as a solvent for domestic cleaning agents, paints, coatings, varnishes, resins, glues, vegetable oils, dyes, rubbers, alkaloids, lacquers, enamels, and adhesives. It is also used in the manufacture of industrial cleaning products, perfumes, brake fluid, artificial flavors, fruit essences, and fish meat extraction to produce concentrated fish protein. 2-Butanol has no therapeutic indication (3, 4, 5, 6). 2-Butanol is available in liquid form (6).
