Acotiamide is a prokinetic agent with gastrointestinal (GI) motility-enhancing activity. It is used orally in the symptomatic relief of functional dyspepsia. Acotiamide is an acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor. Acotiamide suppresses the degradation of acetylcholine (ACh) released from cholinergic nerve terminals by inhibiting AChE, thereby enhancing the ACh-induced contraction and motility of the gastric antrum and the gastric body.
