It is used as a dietary supplement and is present as a component of total parenteral nutrition. L-Alanine is present in some cosmetics formulations. People use alanine as dietary supplement for dehydration from diarrhea, enlarged prostate, schizophrenia, and stress, to boost glycose and energy metabolism, to boost the immune system, and for many other purposes, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses.
