Alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride C_12-16, also known as tetradecyl benzyl dimethyl ammonium chloride, is used widely as a disinfectant and sanitizer and also as a wood preservative. It is added as a germicide to household wipe and towelette cleaners. Alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride C_12-16 and other compounds with similar chemical structures are registered for their antimicrobial uses by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Pesticide Programs. This class of compounds is also called alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride compounds (ADBAC compounds).
