Azelastine hydrochloride is an antihistamine used to relieve itching associated with pink eye and to treat itching, itchy/runny nose and sneezing associated with allergies and hay fever. Azelastine hydrochloride is a relatively specific histamine H1 antagonist and inhibitor of the release of histamine from mast cells involved in the allergic response.
