Aztreonam is a beta-lactam antibiotic resistant to beta-lactamases and indicated for Gramnegative infections including infections of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, blood, skin, and abdomen, as well as gynecological infections. Aztreonam is a bactericidal agent that acts by inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis. Aztreonam has activity in the presence of some beta-lactamases, both penicillinases and cephalosporinases, of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria.
