Benzenesulfonic acid is the simplest member of the class of a benzenesulfonic acids that consists of a benzene carrying a single sulfo group. It is a conjugate acid of benzenesulfonate. Benzenesulfonic acid, mono-C10-13-alkyl derivs., compds. with ethanolamine is a surfactant used as cleaning agent; there is no therapeutic use of formulations with this compound. Benzenesulfonic acid, mono-C10-13-alkyl derivs, compds. with ethanolamine is part of the group of structurally related linear alkylbenzene sulfonates (LAS) that have surfactant properties. The chemicals in this group can have an alkyl chain between 10 and 16 carbon atoms. The main commercial-grade material is typically limited to a range of 10 to 14 or 10 to 13 carbons with a dodecyl-component of 20% to 35%. Most of the chemicals in this group have similar end uses, typically in cleaning products.
