Benzoyl peroxide is indicated for the treatment of acne. Benzoyl peroxide has antibacterial action against Propionibacterium acnes in treatment of acne vulgaris. Benzoyl peroxide improves both inflammatory and non-inflammatory lesions of acne. The medication also has some skin cell lysis effect, which produces break up of acne lesions, as well as drying and skin clearing actions that contribute to its efficacy.
