Beraprost is a synthetic analogue of epoprostenol (prostacyclin) that causes vasodilatation and prevents platelet aggregation. It is usually used to improve ulcer, pain, and coldness associated with chronic arterial obstruction. Beraprost is also used for essential pulmonary hypertension. Beraprost is also being studied for use in avoiding reperfusion injury. Beraprost is generally well tolerated and appears to be an effective agent in the treatment of patients with Buerger’s disease and arteriosclerosis obliterans.
