Brompheniramine is a histamine antagonist indicated for use in the symptomatic relief of allergic conditions, mainly rhinitis and conjunctivitis, and for use in the treatment of symptoms of the common cold. Brompheniramine, an alkylamine derivative, works by acting as an antagonist of the H1 histamine receptors. It also functions as a moderately effective anticholinergic agent, like an antimuscarinic agent, similar to other common antihistamines such as diphenhydramine.
