Please note, this OEL/ADE monograph also applies to Butylscopolamine (CAS RN 7182-53-8). Butylscopolamine bromide, also known as hyoscine-N-butylbromide, is a muscarinic antagonist that acts to prevent acetylcholine-stimulated contraction of smooth muscle in the gastrointestinal tract. It is used to treat abdominal cramping and pain, motion sickness, postoperative nausea and vomiting. It is also used for diagnostic procedure on eyes, mydriasis induction and cycloplegic refraction, uveitis, and iridocyclitis. Butylscopolamine bromide is also used in the treatment of delirium tremens. Butylscopolamine bromide injection (hyoscine butylbromide) is indicated for the relief of acute genitourinary or gastrointestinal spasm (renal or biliary colic), or to produce smooth muscle relaxation prior to radiological procedures such as pyelography or other diagnostic procedures where spasm may be a problem (gastroduodenal endoscopy).
Affygility Solutions has an occupational exposure limit (OEL) and control band assignment for this active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). This monograph also contains the acceptable daily exposure (ADE) value.
OEL Fastrac monographs are a cost-effective and convenient way to meet the requirements for PDEs (ADEs) contained in the EMA Guideline on setting health based exposure limits for use in risk identification in the manufacture of different medicinal products in shared facilities (EMA/CHMP/CVMP/SWP/169430/2012), as well as PIC/S and ANVISA requirements, and to obtain the following information:
