Calcium gluceptate is also referred to as calcium glucoheptonate or calcium glucosemonocarbonate. It is the calcium salt of the alpha-epimer of glucoheptonic acid or a mixture of the alpha and beta epimers. It is indicated for the treatment of mild hypocalcemia due to neonatal tetany, tetany due to parathyroid deficiency or vitamin D deficiency, and alkalosis, as prophylaxis of hypocalcemia during exchange transfusions, in the treatment of intestinal malabsorption, and to replenish electrolytes. Additionally, calcium gluceptate and other calcium salts (such as calcium glucono glucoheptonate, calcium glutamate and calcium gluconolactate) are used in veterinary medicine for the treatment of hypocalcemia and of calcium deficiency states such as parturient paresis in cattle, horses, sheep, goats, pigs and birds.
Affygility Solutions has an occupational exposure limit (OEL) and control band assignment for this active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). This monograph also contains the acceptable daily exposure (ADE) value.
