Canrenone, also known as aldadiene, is an aldosterone antagonist with potassium-sparing diuretic activity. Canrenone is an antimineralocorticoid and active metabolite of both spironolactone and of potassium canrenoate. It is used in the treatment of primary hyperaldosteronism, edematous states caused by secondary hyperaldosteronism (such as congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis in the ascitic phase, nephrotic syndrome), and essential arterial hypertension.
