Caprolactam is a natural component identified in Vitis vinifera, Fagopyrum esculentum, and Nicotiana tabacum, supported by available data. It is the cyclic amide of caproic acid and serves as a key ingredient in the fabrication of synthetic polyamide fibers. The primary application of caprolactam lies in serving as an intermediate in the production of nylon 6 polymers, known for their versatile applications including textiles, carpets, industrial yarns, engineering plastics utilized in both industrial and medical contexts, and various consumer goods like cosmetics, diapers, and 3D-printing filaments. Some residual caprolactam may be present in products crafted from nylon 6. Additionally, caprolactam finds utility as a plasticizer and is integrated into the formulation of paints, coatings, adhesive products like glue sticks, and other adhesives. Furthermore, caprolactam may also contribute as a component in the production of specific food packaging materials and as a food flavoring agent. Caprolactam is used in the manufacture of synthetic fibers.
