Cefotaxime is indicated for the treatment of susceptible bacterial infections including bacterial meningitis, gonorrhea, bone and joint infections, skin and skin layer infections, abdominal infection, lower respiratory tract infection, sepsis, pelvic inflammatory disease, prevention of infection and urinary tract infections. Cefotaxime sodium, a semisynthetic, broad spectrum cephalosporin, exhibits its bactericidal activity by inhibiting cell wall synthesis in a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms.
