Ceftaroline fosamil is a broad-spectrum cephalosporin antibacterial, sometimes described as a “fifth-generation” cephalosporin, that is used in the treatment of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) and acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI) (also known as complicated skin and soft tissue infections (cSSTI)) caused by susceptible organisms. It may be of particular use for skin infections caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
