Chlortetracycline is tetracycline with a 7-chloro substitution. Chlortetracycline is considered the drug of choice for the treatment of ocular infections combined with erythromycin and in donovanosis infection. Chlortetracycline is also indicated in combination with other tetracyclines for the treatment of gonorrhea to eradicate possible coexistent non-gonococcal urethritis and for treatment of Chlamydia genitourinary infections. Chlortetracycline has shown therapeutic efficacy in the treatment of recurrent mouth ulcers, dry sockets from tooth extraction and fluid buildup around a testicle.
