Please note, this OEL/ADE monograph also applies to Clobetasone butyrate (CAS RN 25122-57-0) and Clobetasone propionate (CAS RN 25122-56-9). In dermatology, topical clobetasone butyrate is indicated for use in the reduction of itchiness and erythema associated with eczema and dermatitis. In ophthalmology, clobetasone butyrate 0.1% eye drops are indicated for use in the treatment of dry eyes in Sjögren's Syndrome. Topical corticosteroids act as anti-inflammatory agents via multiple mechanisms to inhibit late phase allergic reactions including decreasing the density of mast cells, decreasing chemotaxis and activation of eosinophils, decreasing cytokine production by lymphocytes, monocytes, mast cells and eosinophils, and inhibiting the metabolism of arachidonic acid. Topically applied clobetasone butyrate is a glucocorticoid receptor agonist that decreases the activity of prostaglandins, kinins, histamine, liposomal enzymes and other endogenous mediators of inflammation.
Affygility Solutions has an occupational exposure limit (OEL) and control band assignment for this active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). This monograph also contains the acceptable daily exposure (ADE) value.
OEL Fastrac monographs are a cost-effective and convenient way to meet the requirements for PDEs (ADEs) contained in the EMA Guideline on setting health based exposure limits for use in risk identification in the manufacture of different medicinal products in shared facilities (EMA/CHMP/CVMP/SWP/169430/2012), as well as PIC/S and ANVISA requirements, and to obtain the following information:
