Clonidine is an imidazoline derivate and centrally acting α-adrenergic agonist with antihypertensive activity. It is used to treat hypertension and severe cancer pain, among other conditions, and to treat withdrawal symptoms from various substances. Clonidine is also used for the diagnosis of pheochromocytoma, the treatment of nicotine dependance and opiate withdrawal, and to prevent migraine.
