Please note, this OEL/ADE monograph also applies to alternate CAS RNs 748069-57-0 / 1889242-13-0, and colistimethate sodium (CAS RN 8068-28-8). Colistimethate, also known as colistin methanesulfonate, is a broad-spectrum polymyxin antibiotic used for the treatment of acute or chronic infections due to most aerobic gramnegative bacteria except Proteus bacteria. Colistimethate is a mixture of methanesulfonate derivatives of cyclic polypeptides colistin A and B from Bacillus colistinus or Bacillus polymyxa. Colistimethate is particularly indicated when the infection is caused by sensitive strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Colistimethate sodium is used via inhalation in the management of respiratory infections of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in patients with cystic fibrosis.
Affygility Solutions has an occupational exposure limit (OEL) and control band assignment for this active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). This monograph also contains the acceptable daily exposure (ADE) value.
OEL Fastrac monographs are a cost-effective and convenient way to meet the requirements for PDEs (ADEs) contained in the EMA Guideline on setting health based exposure limits for use in risk identification in the manufacture of different medicinal products in shared facilities (EMA/CHMP/CVMP/SWP/169430/2012), as well as PIC/S and ANVISA requirements, and to obtain the following information:
