Corticotropin is used to treat infantile spasms in infants and children under 2 years of age, to treat exacerbations of multiple sclerosis in adults, and for disease of joints/collagen/ skin, allergy, eye, respiration, and swelling. Corticotropin is a hormone produced by the body. Its mechanism of action to treat infantile spasms is not known. Corticotropin, also known as adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) is produced by the pituitary gland and stimulates the adrenal gland to secrete cortisol.
