Daidzein is an isoflavone extract from soy, which is an inactive analog of the tyrosine kinase inhibitor genistein. It has antioxidant and phytoestrogenic properties. Phytoestrogens are nonsteroidal plant products (chiefly isoflavones) with estrogenic activity. Most common phytoestrogens include biochanin A, coumestrol, daidzein, equol, genistein, genistin, and 8- prenylnaringenin and are found in plants, particularly clover and soy, that are used in human and animal foods. Human exposure to phytoestrogens can be by consumption of plant products or by consumption of exposed animal products.
