Dexbrompheniramine, the active (S)-(+)-enantiomer of brompheniramine, is an antihistamine commonly employed to alleviate allergy symptoms, particularly those affecting the upper respiratory tract. Brompheniramine itself is a racemic mixture, but the dextrorotatory isomer, dexbrompheniramine, exhibits approximately twice the potency of brompheniramine per unit of weight. Both brompheniramine maleate and dexbrompheniramine maleate are utilized to provide symptomatic relief for allergic conditions, primarily rhinitis and conjunctivitis.
