Dicyclopentadiene is a dimer of cyclopentadiene (CPD) formed by a Diels-Alder addition reaction. Dicyclopentadiene is a highly reactive intermediate product that originates from high temperature cracking of petroleum fractions. Dicyclopentadiene is used for a wide range of resins, including aromatic hydrocarbons, unsaturated polyesters, phenolics, and epoxies. It is also used as a chemical intermediate in the manufacture of insecticides, paints, varnishes, and flame retardants for plastics.
