Diethylamine salicylate is composed of diethylamine and salicylic acid salt (3). Salicylic acid directly and irreversibly inhibits COX-1 and COX-2 to decrease conversion of arachidonic acid to precursors of prostaglandins and thromboxanes. The use of salicylate in rheumatic diseases is due to its analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity.
