Diethylamine salicylate, is indicated for symptomatic relief of rheumatic and minor musculoskeletal conditions including lower back pain, fibrositis, sciatica, bruises and strains. Diethylamine salicylate is composed of diethylamine and salicylic acid salt (3). Salicylic acid directly and irreversibly inhibits COX-1 and COX-2 to decrease conversion of arachidonic acid to precursors of prostaglandins and thromboxanes. The use of salicylate in rheumatic diseases is due to its analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity.
