Diethylamine is a secondary aliphatic amine where both N-substituents are ethyl. It is a conjugate base of a diethylammonium (1). Diethylamine occurs naturally in foods and plants. Diethylamine is used mainly as a chemical intermediate to produce the corrosion inhibitor N,N-diethylethanolamine and a lesser amount is used to produce pharmaceuticals, resins, pesticides and insect repellants, and rubber processing.
