Diethylstilbestrol is currently indicated for the treatment of prostate cancer. It has also been used in veterinary medicine and as a growth promoter (formerly) in cattle, sheep, and poultry (NTP). It was previously indicated for hormone-replacement therapy, control of menstrual disorders, relief or prevention of postpartum breast engorgement, palliative therapy for prostate cancer in men and breast cancer in postmenopausal women, prevention of miscarriage and premature delivery in pregnant women, and as a post-coital contraceptive.
