DL-Methylephedrine hydrochloride is the racemic mixture of the levo and dextro isomers of methylephedrine hydrochloride. DL-Methylephedrine hydrochloride is a sympathomimetic amine that appears in various over-the-counter cough and cold medications throughout the world. Methylephedrine is not legally available in the United States, but has been identified in cases of drug abuse. Moreover, the use of methylephedrine hydrochloride as a bronchodilator and for the relief of cough and nasal congestion seem to be no longer available in the European Union.
