Please note, this OEL/ADE monograph also applies to dopamine hydrochloride (CAS RN 62-31-7) and dopamine hydrobromide (CAS RN 645-31-8). Dopamine is used for the correction of hemodynamic imbalances present in the shock syndrome due to heart attack, trauma, infection of the blood, open-heart surgery, kidney failure and chronic heart failure. Dopamine increases the strength and rate of the heartbeat. It also relaxes the peripheral blood vessels at low doses and causes constriction of vessels at higher doses. Increasing the output of the heart and opening up the vessels increases blood flow to tissues.
