Econazole, an imidazole antifungal, is used topically to treat various fungal infections, including superficial candidiasis, dermatophytosis, pityriasis versicolor, tinea pedis, tinea cruris, tinea corporis, cutaneous candidiasis, and tinea versicolor. This broad-spectrum antimycotic medication of the imidazole class also exhibits some efficacy against gram positive bacteria. It is intended for topical application to combat infections caused by various fungi such as Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton tonsurans, Microsporum canis, Microsporum audouinii, Microsporum gypseum, and Epidermophyton floccosum.
