Erythromycin a bacteriostatic antibiotic macrolide produced by Streptomyces erythreus is indicated for the treatment of susceptible bacterial infection of multiple types including acne vulgaris, prevention of rheumatic fever from penicillin allergy, heart lining infection, ear infection, lung infection, eye infection, sinus infection, gonorrhea, skin infection, intestinal infection, and multiple types of sexually-related infections.
