Etodolac is an NSAID (Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drug) and a preferential inhibitor of cyclo-oxygenase 2 (COX-2). It is indicated for the treatment of acute pain and rheumatoid arthritis, including juvenile idiopathic arthritis and osteoarthritis. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs exhibit analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic activity. The exact mechanism of action has not been clearly established, but it appears to be associated with inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.
