Eugenol is a naturally occurring phenolic molecule found in several plants such as cinnamon, clove, and bay leaves. It has been used as a topical antiseptic as a counter-irritant and in dental preparations with zinc oxide for root canal sealing and pain control. Eugenol is an ingredient in oral hygiene preparations and has been used as a flavor and food additive. Eugenol is also used as a pesticide. Eugenol is the major constituent (70% to 90%) in the aromatic oil extract from cloves (Syzygium aromaticum), a spice widely used as a flavoring for meats, stews, cakes, and teas. Eugenol is also found in lower concentrations in cinnamon and other aromatic spices.
Affygility Solutions has an occupational exposure limit (OEL) and control band assignment for this active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). This monograph also contains the acceptable daily exposure (ADE) value and the Permitted Daily Exposure (PDE) value.
OEL Fastrac monographs are a cost-effective and convenient way to meet the requirements for PDEs (ADEs) contained in the EMA Guideline on setting health based exposure limits for use in risk identification in the manufacture of different medicinal products in shared facilities (EMA/CHMP/CVMP/SWP/169430/2012), as well as PIC/S and ANVISA requirements, and to obtain the following information:
