Eurycoma longifolia is a flowering, shrubby, slow growing tree native to Southeast Asia. Its leaves, roots, and bark have been used for the extract. Eurycoma longifolia (Eurycoma longifolia Jack) is also known as Tongkat ali, Long Jack, Ali’s Umbrella, Malaysia ginseng (Malaysia), Pasak Bumi or Bedara Pahit (Indonesia), Ian-don (Thailand), cay ba benh (Vietnam), and tho nan (Laotian). It is a flowering, shrubby, slow growing tree native to Southeast Asia. The leaves, roots, and bark of Eurycoma longifolia have been used extensively in traditional medicine for many conditions including diabetes, rheumatism, jaundice, malaria, asthma, depression, fever, fungal infections, erectile dysfunction, and as an aphrodisiac. It has recently become a popular herbal supplement in the United States (US), as extracts of Eurycoma longifolia roots have been promoted as increasing testosterone levels and improving athletic performance.
