Favipiravir is a modified pyrazine analog that was initially approved in Japan for therapeutic use in resistant cases of influenza. Favipiravir is also an unapproved antiviral drug currently under investigation and available only for compassionate use in patients with COVID-19. The antiviral targets RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) enzymes, which are necessary for the transcription and replication of viral genomes. Favipiravir inhibits replication of influenza A and B, but the drug shows promise in the treatment of influenza strains that are resistant to neuraminidase inhibitors, as well as avian influenza.
Affygility Solutions has an occupational exposure limit (OEL) and control band assignment for this active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). This monograph also contains the acceptable daily exposure (ADE) value.
OEL Fastrac monographs are a cost-effective and convenient way to meet the requirements for PDEs (ADEs) contained in the EMA Guideline on setting health based exposure limits for use in risk identification in the manufacture of different medicinal products in shared facilities (EMA/CHMP/CVMP/SWP/169430/2012), as well as PIC/S and ANVISA requirements, and to obtain the following information:
