Ferrous sulphate is a dietary supplement to aid in relief and prevention of iron-deficiency anemia. Additionaly, ferrous sulfate used as a nutrient and/or dietary supplement in animal drugs, feeds, and related products is generally recognized as safe when used in accordance with good manufacturing or feeding practice. Ferrous sulfate provides iron, an essential component in hemoglobin, myoglobin, and various enzymes. Iron combines with porphyrin and globin chains to form hemoglobin, which is critical for oxygen delivery from the lungs to other tissues.
