Fluoxetine oral therapy is indicated for many different conditions including bulimia nervosa, depressed bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder and premenstrual dysphoric disorder. Fluoxetine HCl is a psychotropic agent whose anti-depressive, anti-obsessive-compulsive, and anti-bulimic properties are attributed to its inhibition of serotonin uptake in neurons of the central nervous system. Binding to muscarinic, histaminergic, alpha(1)-adrenergic and other receptors in the brain is much less compared to classical tricyclic antidepressants.
