Please note, this OEL/ADE monograph also applies to formoterol fumarate (CAS RN 43229-80-7), formoterol fumarate dihydrate (CAS RN 183814-30-4), and formoterol tartrate (CAS RN 708272-50-8). Formoterol is an inhaled beta-2 (β2)-agonist used in the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma that was first approved for use in the United States (US) in 2001. A major clinical advantage of formoterol over other inhaled beta-agonists is its rapid onset of action (2 to 3 minutes), which is at least as fast as albuterol, combined with a long duration of action (12 hours). For this reason, treatment guidelines for asthma recommend its use as both a reliever and maintenance medication. It is available as a singleentity product and in several formulations in combination with both inhaled corticosteroids and long-acting muscarinic antagonists.
Affygility Solutions has an occupational exposure limit (OEL) and control band assignment for this active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). This monograph also contains the acceptable daily exposure (ADE) value.
OEL Fastrac monographs are a cost-effective and convenient way to meet the requirements for PDEs (ADEs) contained in the EMA Guideline on setting health based exposure limits for use in risk identification in the manufacture of different medicinal products in shared facilities (EMA/CHMP/CVMP/SWP/169430/2012), as well as PIC/S and ANVISA requirements, and to obtain the following information:
