Gestrinone, also known as ethylnorgestrienone, is a synthetic steroid of the 19- nortestosterone group that is used primarily in the treatment of endometriosis with or without accompanying sterility. Treatment is limited to a single course of 6 months duration per lifetime. Gestrinone has been studied in the management of cyclical mastalgia and uterine fibroids. Gestrinone is explicitly banned by the United States (US) Anti-Doping Agency because of its androgenic and potentially performance-enhancing properties.
