Gluconic acid is an electrolyte supplement used in total parenteral nutrition. It is commonly found in salts with sodium and calcium. Gluconic acid or gluconate is used to maintain the cation-anion balance in electrolyte solutions. Gluconic acid is also used for acidification, as a sequestrant, and for physiological properties in the food and pharmaceutical industries.
