Please note, this OEL/ADE monograph also applies to imipenem hydrate (CAS RN 74431-23-5). Imipenem is a broad-spectrum, intravenous (IV) beta-lactam antibiotic of the carbapenem subgroup. It has a role as an antibacterial drug. Imipenem is used in combination with cilastatin and as a triple-drug product with cilastatin and relebactam. Imipenem is indicated for the treatment of bacterial sepsis, female genital infection, infection of bone and infectious disorder of joint, infection of skin and/or subcutaneous (SC) tissue, infectious disease of abdomen, infective endocarditis due to Staphylococcus aureus (penicillinaseproducing strains), lower respiratory tract infection, mixed infectious disease, and urinary tract infectious disease.
