Ipratropium is a synthetic, quaternary ammonium derivative, anticholinergic agent indicated for the treatment of acute bronchospasm associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It is also indicated for the symptomatic relief of rhinorrhea associated with the common cold or seasonal allergic rhinitis for patients 5 years or older. It is also indicated in combination with inhaled betaagonist systemic corticosteroids for the management of severe exacerbations of asthma flares requiring treatment.
