Please note that this monograph also contains the pediatric ADE (pADE). Additionally, this OEL/ADE monograph also applies to Isometheptene bitartrate (CAS RN 5984-50-9), Isometheptene hydrochloride (CAS RN 6168-86-1), Isometheptene monomucate (CAS RN 5984-51-0), and Isometheptene mucate (CAS RN 7492-31-1). Isometheptene (usually as isometheptene mucate) is a sympathomimetic amine sometimes used in the treatment of migraines and tension headaches due to its vasoconstricting properties. Isometheptene mucate is an indirect-acting sympathomimetic. Due to its vasoconstricting properties, isometheptene mucate is used for the treatment of acute migraine attacks, usually in combination with other analgesics. It can also displace catecholamines from vesicles inside the neuron leading to the sympathetic responses it is known for.
