Isopropyl myristate is the ester of isopropyl alcohol and myristic acid. It is a natural product found in Siraitia grosvenorii. Isopropyl myristate is a moisturizer with polar characteristics used in cosmetics and topical medical preparations to ameliorate skin absorption. Isopropyl myristate has been largely studied and used as a skin penetration enhancer. Isopropyl myristate is formally indicated as the active ingredient in a nonprescription pediculicide rinse. It is used as a basis for relatively nongreasy emollient ointments and creams.
