Isoproterenol is indicated for the treatment of multiple conditions including anesthesia for bronchospasm, asthma, heart attack, heart related shock, congestive heart failure, decreased vascular flow, heart block, blood volume related shock, and fainting. Isoproterenol hydrochloride is a potent nonselective beta-adrenergic agonist having low affinity for alpha-adrenergic receptors. Systemic effects include lowering of peripheral vascular resistance and diastolic blood pressure, direct effects on the heart, and prevention of airway constriction.
