Josamycin, as josamycin hydrochloride and propionate, is a macrolide antibiotic from Streptomyces narbonensis used for the treatment of bacterial infections. Josamycin is also used as a veterinary medicine in chickens for the prevention and the treatment of chronic respiratory diseases, sinusitis, synovitis and arthritis caused by mycoplasma and Gram-positive germs. It is dosed by the oral route via drinking water or by premix feed. In pigs, josamycin is recommended for the prevention and treatment of chronic respiratory diseases.
