Lanreotide is indicated for the treatment of acromegaly, a disorder in adults in which the pituitary gland produces too much growth hormone, and for neuroendocrine tumor. Lanreotide, an octapeptide analog of natural somatostatin, behaves similarly to that of natural somatostatin and inhibits secretion of various endocrine, neuroendocrine, exocrine and paracrine functions; thereby, normalizing growth hormones (GH) and/or insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) levels in acromegalic patients.
