Please note, this OEL/ADE monograph also applies to Levocarnitine chloride (CAS RN 6645-46-1), L-Carnitine tartrate (CAS RN 36687-82-8), Acetyl L-carnitine hydrochloride (CAS RN 5080-50-2), Levocarnitine fumarate (CAS RN 220349-64-4), and Carnitine trisodium (CAS RN Not Available). Levocarnitine is an amino acid derivative and a constituent of striated muscle and liver. It is indicated in the treatment of primary systemic carnitine deficiency, a genetic impairment of normal biosynthesis or utilization of levocarnitine from dietary sources, or for the treatment of secondary carnitine deficiency resulting from an inborn error of metabolism such as glutaric aciduria II, methyl malonic aciduria, propionic acidemia, and medium chain fatty acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency. It is used therapeutically to stimulate gastric and pancreatic secretions and in the treatment of hyperlipoproteinemias. Parenteral levocarnitine is indicated for the prevention and treatment of carnitine deficiency in patients with end-stage renal disease.
Affygility Solutions has an occupational exposure limit (OEL) and control band assignment for this active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). This monograph also contains the acceptable daily exposure (ADE) value.
OEL Fastrac monographs are a cost-effective and convenient way to meet the requirements for PDEs (ADEs) contained in the EMA Guideline on setting health based exposure limits for use in risk identification in the manufacture of different medicinal products in shared facilities (EMA/CHMP/CVMP/SWP/169430/2012), as well as PIC/S and ANVISA requirements, and to obtain the following information:
